Yes, the UAE legally permits homeschooling. Each emirate has its own registration process, so requirements vary depending on where you live.

In Abu Dhabi, families register through ADEK (the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge). In Dubai, the relevant authority is KHDA (the Knowledge and Human Development Authority).

Both authorities require parents to submit a learning plan and follow a recognised curriculum. They may also request periodic progress reports or assessments.

The key requirements typically include:

  • Written application to the local education authority
  • Approved international curriculum (e.g. Cambridge, American, IB)
  • Regular progress reporting
  • Valid UAE residency for the student

Many homeschooling families in the UAE choose to enrol their children in an accredited online school rather than design a programme from scratch. This gives students a clear timetable, qualified teachers, and a path to recognised qualifications.

Cambridge IGCSE is one of the most popular choices. It's accepted by universities worldwide and recognised by UAE education authorities as an approved curriculum pathway.

Some parents confuse IGCSE with GCSE. Both are secondary-level qualifications, but IGCSE is the international version. It's designed for students outside the UK and is far more common across the GCC.

After IGCSE, students can progress to Cambridge A-Levels. This two-year programme prepares them for university entry in the UAE, UK, and internationally.

Digital International School (DIS) offers live-taught Cambridge IGCSE and A-Level programmes fully online. Over 100 GCC-based, postgraduate-qualified instructors deliver every lesson live — no pre-recorded videos.

IGCSE tuition starts from AED 500 per month for all subjects. A-Level starts from AED 800 per month. Students access a dedicated platform with live lessons, schedules, messaging, and assignment tracking.

Homeschooling in the UAE is straightforward once you register and choose a strong curriculum. An accredited online school handles the structure so you can focus on supporting your child.
