Does the UAE allow homeschooling?

The UAE does not permit traditional homeschooling under current education law.
Education authorities in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and other emirates require all school-age children to be enrolled in a licensed educational institution. Parents cannot legally withdraw a child and teach them independently at home without such enrolment.
However, many families in the UAE use online schools as a practical and fully legal solution. A licensed online school meets the enrolment requirement while allowing children to study from home.
This is different from unsupervised homeschooling. An online school provides a structured timetable, qualified teachers, live lessons, and an accredited curriculum. The child is officially enrolled and attending school, just doing so remotely.
Digital International School offers the British curriculum through Cambridge IGCSE and A-Levels, delivered entirely online with live lessons taught by qualified instructors based across GCC locations. Students attend scheduled classes, submit assignments, and receive feedback, all within a regulated school structure.
Several key differences separate a licensed online school from homeschooling:
- Child is officially enrolled in a licensed institution
- Qualified teachers deliver every lesson
- Structured timetable and assessment
- Accredited curriculum (e.g. Cambridge)
- Full academic records maintained
Families who want flexibility without breaking UAE education law should explore licensed online schooling rather than attempting independent homeschooling. If you have questions about enrolment or curriculum options, contact us to find out more.
