What is Triple Science GCSE?

Triple Science GCSE means taking Biology, Chemistry, and Physics as three separate subjects, each with its own qualification and grade.
Most schools offer a combined route called Double Award Science. That gives students two grades covering all three sciences together. Triple Science goes further. Each subject is examined independently, and students come away with three separate grades on their certificate.
The content in Triple Science is broader and goes into more depth than the combined route. Topics like organic chemistry, genetics, and electromagnetism are covered in greater detail. This makes it the stronger choice for students who plan to continue with science at A-Levels.
These are the three subjects included in Triple Science GCSE:
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
Triple Science is particularly well suited to students aiming for medicine, engineering, or any science-based degree. Universities and sixth forms often look for separate science grades when considering applicants for these courses.
At DIS, Triple Science is available as part of our Cambridge IGCSE programme. Students take all three subjects with qualified, subject-specialist instructors through live online lessons. The IGCSE version follows the Cambridge curriculum, which is recognised by universities across the UK, UAE, and the wider GCC locations.
If your child is strong in science and has clear academic goals, Triple Science is worth the extra workload. For students who prefer breadth over depth, or whose interests lie elsewhere, Double Award Science is a perfectly valid alternative.
